Nigerian music icon Innocent Idibia, widely known as 2Baba, has penned a deeply emotional message to mark his 25th year in the music industry, expressing heartfelt appreciation to everyone who played a part in his rise to stardom.

In an open letter titled “Open Letter of Gratitude – 2Baba @ 25 Years in the Industry,” the celebrated artiste looked back on his remarkable journey, describing it as one filled with “gratitude, memories, lessons, and love.”

“As I stand on the threshold of 25 years in this incredible journey called music, my heart is full of gratitude, memories, lessons, and love. This celebration is not mine alone. It belongs to everyone who played a role in shaping the story of Innocent Idibia, 2Baba,” he wrote.

The veteran singer went on to acknowledge key figures who helped shape his career, including Nelson Brown, Kenny Ogungbe (Baba Keke), Dayo Adeneye (D1), Eddie Lawani, and DJ Jimmy Jatt.

He praised Nelson Brown for discovering and believing in Plantashun Boiz — the music group that launched his career alongside Faze and Blackface — at a time when the industry offered few opportunities for young talents.

“You were the first to see light in the dream of three young men when no one else believed. You gave us a voice when we barely had a microphone, a space when all we had was a dream,” he wrote.

2Baba also paid tribute to industry pioneers Kenny Ogungbe and Dayo Adeneye, describing them as mentors who helped turn his dreams into reality through their support and guidance.

“You opened doors that led us from dreams to destiny, we made history together; we won together. You stood as mentors and big brothers, and your names will forever be etched in my story,” he said.

The singer further appreciated veteran show promoter Eddie Lawani for providing Plantashun Boiz with a platform to showcase their talent when few believed in their potential. He also praised DJ Jimmy Jatt for being one of the earliest supporters of his music and career.

2Baba noted that his anniversary celebration was not just a personal victory but also a reflection of the collective effort that has driven the evolution of Nigerian music over the past two decades.

“Without the people who believed, corrected, and supported me, my story would have been incomplete,” he added.

Since his early days with Plantashun Boiz in the late 1990s, 2Baba has become a symbol of excellence and longevity in African music. With classics like African Queen, For Instance, and If Love Is a Crime, he has built a legacy that transcends generations.

Beyond his music, 2Baba continues to use his platform to advocate for unity, love, and positive change, remaining one of the most respected voices in the Nigerian entertainment industry.

As he marks this milestone, fans and fellow artists have taken to social media to celebrate him, honoring his resilience, humility, and the profound impact of his artistry on African music.
