Nigerian music icon 2Baba Idibia has opened up about the complex legacy of his 2004 hit song, African Queen, describing it as both a blessing and a burden in his decades-long career.

Speaking on the Entertainment & Lifestyle show, he said, “That song has been a huge blessing and e don turn to problem join for me, you know, but like I said earlier, I’m grateful for everything.”

The timeless track propelled 2Face to international stardom, earning him multiple awards and solidifying his place as one of Africa’s most celebrated music exports.

However, the song has not been without controversy. 2Face’s former bandmate, Blackface, has repeatedly accused him of stealing the song. The singer has consistently refuted the claim, emphasizing that African Queen was a collaborative effort during their band days.

Despite the disputes, 2Face remains appreciative of the song’s enduring impact on his career. He also highlighted that while African Queen is his most iconic work, many of his other songs have also resonated deeply with fans.

“There are so many other songs I have that are brilliant, and many people resonate with them too,” he said.

The legacy of African Queen was recently reaffirmed when Billboard named it the “Greatest Afrobeats Song of All Time,” further cementing its status as a landmark in African music history.
