The woman at the centre of a viral kiss cam clip from a Coldplay concert in the United States has finally addressed the controversy, describing the incident as a brief lapse in judgment fueled by alcohol.
Kristin Cabot, formerly a human resources executive, found herself thrust into the spotlight after she was shown on the big screen sharing an intimate moment with her married boss, Andy Byron, who was then the CEO of Astronomer. The incident occurred during Coldplay’s July 16 concert in Boston.
When their faces appeared on the stadium screen, both Cabot and Byron appeared startled, quickly pulling apart and attempting to hide, a reaction that immediately drew attention from the crowd.
Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin amplified the moment when he made a light-hearted remark about what was happening, a comment that helped propel the clip across social media platforms, where it quickly went viral.
Speaking months later in an interview with The New York Times, Cabot denied claims of an ongoing relationship with Byron, stressing that the encounter was not part of a secret affair.
“I made a bad decision after a few drinks and acted inappropriately with my boss,” she said, adding that she has taken full responsibility for what happened and ultimately lost her job as a result.
According to Cabot, the kiss was a one-time incident and the first time anything of that nature had occurred between them. She described it as a “cliché mistake,” explaining that it happened after consuming a few tequila cocktails.
She also opened up about the personal toll of the viral video, revealing that she has faced intense online backlash, including ridicule, harassment and even death threats, which she said has made the entire experience deeply traumatic.
