Nigerian music star Ayra Starr has opened up about the profound impact working with Afrobeats icon Wizkid has had on her personal growth, describing him as a “leading legend” whose quiet composure reshaped her view of confidence.

Speaking in an interview after her performance at the Grammy Museum on Tuesday, the Rush singer reflected on her experiences collaborating with the superstar, admitting that their first meeting left her completely starstruck.

According to Ayra, encountering Wizkid for the first time was overwhelming, making it difficult for her to stay fully present in the moment.

“Wiz is a legend, we all know that. He is a leading legend,” she said, recalling their initial session. “I remember the first time working with him, there was so much… I just could not believe it. I think I was not present because I was ‘oh my God, Wizkid’.”

However, she explained that their second collaboration offered a different experience altogether. Wizkid arrived on her set with a calm, grounded energy that immediately stood out to her and left a lasting impression.

Reflecting on that moment, Ayra noted that his relaxed demeanor taught her a powerful lesson about self-assurance. “But the second time, he was coming on my set. He was just so cool, calm, and relaxed,” she said. “I know confidence is not noise; he made me understand that.”

She added that his quiet confidence and clarity of purpose deeply inspired her. “He is just very calm as a human being, very present and confident in his mission in this life, and that made me learn a lot.”

Ayra Starr has previously spoken highly of Wizkid, once describing him as the “king of sexy Afrobeats,” further underscoring her admiration for the global star.

Both artists have collaborated on two projects. Their first was 2 Sugar, featured on Wizkid’s 2022 album More Love, Less Ego. They later teamed up again on Gimme Dat, a track released in April as part of Ayra Starr’s growing catalogue.

Born Oyinkansola Aderibigbe, Ayra Starr rose to fame in 2021 following the success of her breakout hit Bloody Samaritan. Signed to Mavin Records under Don Jazzy, she has since established herself as one of Nigeria’s most influential young artists, earning widespread recognition, awards, and nominations for her work.
