Popular relationship coach and social media influencer, Blessing CEO, has reacted to the public frenzy that followed her viral “distress” video, clarifying that it was a robbery incident and not a case of domestic violence as many speculated.
The video, which showed the media personality looking shaken while asking for help with the caption, “If you have my number, please call me. I am in distress, I am not safe,” had led many social media users to assume she was being assaulted by her partner, businessman Ikechukwu Ogbonna, also known as IVD.
However, during an interview with Sunday Scoop, Blessing explained that her post was misunderstood, stating that the situation involved their housekeeper who allegedly stole from them.
“It was a robbery incident. The boy we employed as a housekeeper robbed us and sold some of our personal belongings. When IVD confronted him, there was a physical altercation. That was what people saw in the video. I only took the video down because the police asked me to remove it so the case could be properly investigated,” she said.
Blessing noted that people were quick to assume domestic violence was involved because of IVD’s public image.
“People just love negative stories. Because IVD has been associated with domestic violence in the past, many assume any cry for help means he is beating me. But IVD cannot beat me. If he slaps me, I will slap him back. We will fight,” she stated.
Addressing her earlier breakup post that went viral weeks ago, the media personality insisted it wasn’t for clout but an emotional reaction to a misunderstanding.
“When I posted that breakup message, I meant it. It wasn’t a stunt. He didn’t do anything terrible, but something was said that triggered me emotionally. He is a very sensitive person and takes comments to heart. I tried to support him publicly to help launder his image. But when he had that issue where immigration detained him at the airport, he started throwing it back at me, believing I was the one who brought him out and caused more attention. I didn’t like that. It felt like he was blaming me. That was why I withdrew and made that post. Loved ones intervened later and we sorted things out,” she explained.
Speaking on those waiting for her relationship to crash, Blessing said she has grown immune to public judgment.
“It doesn’t move me. I am a controversial person. People generally don’t like good things, and I am not the only celebrity whose relationship they are waiting to see fail. When you show public affection, people assume it is fake or will not last. It is normal. If it wasn’t IVD, they would still talk. Everyone can leave a relationship at any time, but that doesn’t mean one should live in fear of public opinion,” she said.
The outspoken influencer added that sharing parts of her personal life has always been part of her brand.
“As a matter of fact, I was the one who came online to share my divorce story and that was my biggest breakthrough. I think I even had more peace when I wasn’t posting my relationship. Now, when I say anything, people start trying to connect dots. But at this point in my life, comments don’t move me,” she concluded.
