Burna Boy and Sister
Ronami Ogulu, sister to Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy, has offered insight into why the global star spends more time performing on stage than working in the studio.
She revealed that Burna’s dedication to live music is not a random choice but one deeply rooted in family tradition and creative philosophy.
According to Ronami, their mother, Bose Ogulu, didn’t just build a management system — she established a lasting legacy centred on live performance and artistic authenticity. She also credited their uncle, fondly known as Uncle Tee, for playing a crucial role in putting together Burna Boy’s first live band.
“My mum’s younger brother literally scouted everyone from his church,” she revealed.
Ronami explained that this early approach shaped Burna Boy’s artistic direction and the foundation of his music career.
“All of that contributed to the intention of what started today. The goal has always been live music, not just studio recording,” she said.
She added that this is why Burna Boy’s process often confuses some fans who expect him to operate like a typical studio-based artist.
“I think that’s why many people are always confused, asking, ‘Why are you always on tour? Why are you guys always on the road?’ The intention has never really been about going to a studio in LA and sitting there for months,” she explained.
Ronami’s revelation offers a deeper understanding of Burna Boy’s artistry and the family-driven vision that continues to define his global success.
