Nigerian singer CKay has scored a major global milestone, becoming the first Nigerian musician to see a solo song hit the 1-billion-stream mark on Spotify.

His breakout 2019 hit, “Love Nwantiti (Ah Ah Ah),” recently crossed the billion-stream threshold, officially placing CKay in Spotify’s exclusive billion-streams club. The feat also earns him the title of the first solo male African artist to reach the landmark on the platform.

Celebrating on X, CKay wrote: “First solo nigerian song to cross 1 billion streams. Grateful to God and the people involved in this historic success! thank you for streaming.”

Wizkid previously entered the billion-streams league in 2017 through “One Dance,” his chart-topping collaboration with Drake, which holds a Guinness World Record as the first song to hit 1 billion streams on Spotify.

Rema later became the first African lead artist to achieve 1 billion Spotify streams with the remix of “Calm Down” featuring Selena Gomez, while South African star Tyla became the first African female artist to join the club after her viral smash “Water” crossed the mark.

CKay’s new accomplishment adds to the rising global dominance of Afrobeats, further spotlighting Nigeria’s expanding footprint on worldwide streaming platforms.
