The Plateau State Police Command has said that the ban on commercial motorcycles (Okada) in Jos and Bukuru metropolitan areas remains in force. The command’s spokesman, Alabo Alfred, recently reminded Okada riders of the Commercial Motorcycles Prohibition Law 2010 of Plateau State, which prohibits their activities in the areas.
According to him, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bassey Ewah, has reaffirmed the command’s commitment to enforcing the ban, and the police have partnered with the Office of the State Commissioner of Justice to establish a mobile court for prosecuting offenders.
He added that riders who fail to comply with the ban should expect to face disciplinary action.
His words, “The state law must take its full effect to protect the lives and property of prospective victims and preclude such heinous acts.
The enforcement process will not be compromised, as officers enforcing the law are well-guided on the procedure.
This measure ensures strict adherence to the ban and maintains order in the affected areas. The Commissioner of Police warns Okada riders in the State to comply with the government directive and refrain from operating within Jos and Bukuru Metropolitan areas.
Failure to do so will result in conflict with the law, and the Command will take necessary action against offenders. This law also applies to Okada riders and those who patronise them.
The Commissioner of Police assures the public that the enforcement process will not be compromised, as officers enforcing the law are well-guided on the enforcement procedure.
The Plateau State Command urges the public to cooperate with the Police and other law enforcement agencies in the State to ensure the successful implementation of this ban. Together, we can improve security in the Home of Peace and Tourism.”
