Nollywood actress Doris Ogala has served a pre-action notice on Pastor Chris Okafor, the founder of Grace Nation Ministry, accusing him of reneging on a long-standing promise to marry her after years of an alleged intimate relationship.
Ogala claimed she had been romantically involved with the cleric since 2017, a claim that drew public attention last weekend after videos from Okafor’s engagement ceremony surfaced online.
According to the actress, she dissolved her previous marriage at Okafor’s insistence, trusting repeated assurances that he would eventually marry her. She accused the cleric of abandoning her after years of closeness, describing the experience as emotionally and psychologically devastating.
Ogala further alleged that she was subjected to harassment, financial manipulation, and the unauthorized circulation of explicit videos. She also claimed she spent her personal money to help Okafor and his associates secure a business contract, but was never fully refunded.
The actress revealed that the situation pushed her into suicidal thoughts and later issued an ultimatum, demanding either marriage or financial compensation in the form of a house.
Despite the growing controversy, photos from Okafor’s traditional and white wedding ceremonies emerged online on Wednesday.
In a letter dated December 16 and addressed to the cleric, Ogala’s lawyers accused him of breaching a promise of marriage and demanded N1 billion in damages.
The letter stated that Okafor began a pastoral and personal relationship with Ogala during a difficult period in her marriage and made “clear, consistent, and unequivocal” promises to marry her.
“Commencing in 2017, you initiated a personal and pastoral relationship with our client during a period of her marital distress. In the course of offering pastoral assistance, you provided a clear, consistent, and unequivocal promise of marriage to our client,” the letter read.
It added that the promise went beyond verbal assurances, alleging that Ogala was introduced to Okafor’s family and children as a future wife. “This promise was not merely verbal. You actively introduced our client to your family… We reviewed pictorial evidence of our client in family dress together with your family at functions,” the lawyers stated.
They claimed that, relying on the promise, Ogala exited her marriage and lost the opportunity for reconciliation. The letter also alleged that she entrusted Okafor with N45 million due to the trust between them.
“You have repudiated your promise by announcing your engagement to another woman. This act constitutes a clear breach of contract and has been executed in an egregious public manner, causing severe and actionable harm to our client,” the letter added.
The notice further accused Okafor of facilitating the unauthorized release of Ogala’s nude photographs. “We are informed that you caused a malicious, unauthorized disclosure of our client’s nude photographs, which you obtained by reason of your promise to marry her,” it said.
The lawyers demanded N1 billion within 21 days as compensation for aggravated and general damages, citing reputational harm, psychological trauma, and the public nature of the alleged betrayal.
In a separate Instagram post on Wednesday evening, Ogala made additional claims involving Okafor’s new wife.
“That man raped that girl and got her pregnant. Her mother is the choir coordinator at Okafor’s church and they insisted that he had to marry the girl or else they will disgrace and expose him,” she alleged.
She further claimed, “Okafor had to marry that girl because he doesn’t want to be exposed. He had someone who he was supposed to marry in 2024, the girl sent me his naked video. This man is a beast.”
As of the time of this report, Pastor Chris Okafor has not publicly responded to the allegations or the legal notice..
