Ex Presidential candidate, Oby Ezekwesili has come out to react to the recent jailbreak in Benin amid the #EndSARS protest.

Oby Ezekwesili recently revealed that the government is currently coming up with out-dated strong-arm tactics while the youths point the country toward an innovative future.

According to her, what is happening in Edo is nothing but a game, and Osinbajo and Buhari should step up immediately to protect the rights of the #EndSARS protesters nationwide.

She added that #EndSARS protesters have been conducting their protests like a community renewal program by looking out for one another, so they obviously did not break any prison.

His words, “While young #EndSARS citizens point the country toward an innovative future that can compare to global standards, their government acts in opposite direction with their out-dated strong-arm tactics. What’s that game in Benin all about, @ProfOsinbajo @MBuhari ? Please stop.

I hope@NigeriaGov , Presidency @NGRPresident @MBuhari and his VP @ProfOsinbajo are aware of the international mechanisms the world now has for handling state-sanctioned crimes. Step up now and protect the rights of the #EndSARS protesters nationwide. You are not leading now.

Is it the same #EndSARS protesters we have all been watching all week, conducting their protests almost like a community renewal program by looking out for one another; that will suddenly go and break a prison in Benin? Please stop the expensive joke.”

The Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) is a Nigerian Police Force unit under the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department headed by the Deputy Inspector General of Police Anthony Ogbizi. Since 2012, SARS has come under controversy for being linked to acts of extortion, torture, framing and blackmail.

The Special Anti-Robbery Squad was founded in 1992 by former police commissioner Simeon Danladi Midenda. The major reason SARS was formed was when Col. Rindam, a Nigerian Army Colonel was killed by police officers at a checkpoint in Lagos.

SARS is one of the 14 units in the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department which was established to detain, investigate and prosecute people involved in crimes like armed robbery, kidnapping and other forms of crimes.

During its formation the Special Anti-Robbery Squad was known to operate covertly. SARS operatives were not allowed to wear police uniform, publicly carry guns or have walkie-talkies. They were given unmarked vehicles with sometimes no license plates or private plate numbers during duty.
