The General Overseer of Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye has come out to blast the attacks launched on unarmed young protesters at Lekki Tollgate yesternight.

Pastor Adeboye recently came out to say that the action is very condemnable since Nigerians have been peacefully protesting police brutality since the #EndSARS protests started.

According to him, it is also very sad that the Nigerian Police have failed to arrest the weapon-bearing hoodlums and soldiers who keep attacking the well-organized and non-violent #EndSARS protesters.

He added that FG should thoroughly investigate the tragic events at Lekki and other parts of the country and give justice to all victims ASAP.

His words, “I condemn in the strongest possible terms, attacks launched by the Nigerian military on unarmed young people, who have been peacefully protesting police brutality over the last 12 days as #EndSARS protests.”

”I am confounded that prior to the sad events at the #LekkiTollGate, the Nigerian Police failed to arrest the weapon-bearing hoodlums who were attacking the well-organized and non-violent #EndSARS protesters.”

”The condemnable actions of the military risks driving the agitations of the young people underground, thereby making the situation unmanageable.

”I call on the Federal Government to thoroughly investigate the tragic events at Lekki and other parts of the country, give justice to all victims even as it engages the #EndSARS protesters to reach a common agreement to end police brutality.

”I am also appealing to the Youths to allow peace reign & stop any form of action that would give the Military any other form of excuse to attack.

”May the peace of God come upon our nation, now more”

The Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) is a Nigerian Police Force unit under the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department headed by the Deputy Inspector General of Police Anthony Ogbizi. Since 2012, SARS has come under controversy for being linked to acts of extortion, torture, framing and blackmail.

The Special Anti-Robbery Squad was founded in 1992 by former police commissioner Simeon Danladi Midenda. The major reason SARS was formed was when Col. Rindam, a Nigerian Army Colonel was killed by police officers at a checkpoint in Lagos.

SARS is one of the 14 units in the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department which was established to detain, investigate and prosecute people involved in crimes like armed robbery, kidnapping and other forms of crimes.

During its formation the Special Anti-Robbery Squad was known to operate covertly. SARS operatives were not allowed to wear police uniform, publicly carry guns or have walkie-talkies. They were given unmarked vehicles with sometimes no license plates or private plate numbers during duty.
