Nyesom Wike and Siminalayi Fubara
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said that the Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, did not need his permission to defect to the All Progressives Congress. He, however, noted that the move does not guarantee an automatic win in 2027, and Nigerians have been reacting.
According to him, the governor did not need his clearance to defect, and the move was expected following earlier defections by members of the Rivers State House of Assembly and council chairmen.
Wike added that some of the people who previously accused him of working for APC and President Tinubu have now joined the ruling party.
His words, “I cannot say that I have any right to stop somebody from associating with any party or whatever. From what you’ve said, there is nothing left for anybody to say that why you still want to remain is because of the leadership tussle.
The only thing I said is that so many people think that when you sing on your mandate, we stand, that gives you an automatic ticket. And that’s why I’ve said no, it doesn’t give anybody a ticket. You have to work. You have to earn the ticket for you to present to your people.
So many governors have left the PDP. I have been accused; so many governors have accused me that I’m working for Bola Tinubu, APC, to be able to destroy the PDP.
But those same people have also left PDP to go to APC, though it doesn’t surprise me. So, he (Fubara) doesn’t need my clearance. It’s natural. He saw that the House of Assembly members left for APC.
He saw that all the council chairmen left for APC. It’s natural that the governor will also have to leave for APC.”
WOW.
