GEJ’S Role In Africa’s Democracy Is Impactful And Laudable – Ifeanyi Okowa

Delta State governor, Ifeanyi Okowa has come out to hail ex-President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, as he clocks 63 tomorrow, November 20, 2020.

He recently revealed this via a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Olisa Ifeajika, in Asaba.

According to him, GEJ deserves to be commended for his special statesmanship and graceful disposition to issues and his role in guaranteeing democracy across Africa is very impactful and laudable.

He added that GEJ’s administration will long be remembered as the government that practiced the rule of law and freedom of expression.

His words, “On behalf of the government and people of Delta, I congratulate our leader and statesman, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, as he celebrates his 63rd birth anniversary.

“Your Excellency, it gives me pleasure to celebrate you for your continuous role in deepening democracy in our dear country and Africa.

“Your administration will long be remembered as the government that practised the rule of law and freedom of expression as there were no records of human rights abuses throughout your tenure.

“As our dear former President clocks 63 years today, it is my prayer and that of millions of Nigerians, that God will continue to strengthen him in his avowed commitment to ensuring greater peace, good governance and enduring democracy in Africa.”

Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa (born 8 July 1959) is a Nigerian politician who is the incumbent Governor of Delta State. He was inaugurated as a governor on 29 May 2015 after winning the state elections conducted in April 2015. Before his governorship, he was elected senator for Delta North Senatorial District in Delta State, Nigeria, in the April 2011 national elections.

He ran on the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) platform. He is an Ika from Owa-Alero in Delta State, Nigeria. He is also the first person from Anioma to clinch the governorship position of Delta State. He was re-elected as the governor of Delta State on May 29, 2019.

Okowa was born at Owa-Alero in Ika North-East Local Government Area of Delta State. He attended Edo College, Benin City (1970–1976), then went on to the University of Ibadan where he studied Medicine and Surgery, graduating in 1981 with an MBBS degree.

After leaving the National Youth Service Corps, he worked with the Bendel State Hospitals Management Board as a Medical Officer. He entered private practice as Director, Victory Medical Centre, Igbanke in 1986.
