The House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts has urged Nigerians to be committed to the ideals of accountability and transparency as enshrined in Nigeria’s Public Service Rules.
The Chairman of the Committee, Bamidele Salam, recently had his say while speaking in Abuja after the 2025 National Conference on Public Accounts and Fiscal Governance, in organised by the Senate and House of Representatives Public Account Committees.
According to Bamidele, representing Ede North/Ede South/Ejigbo/Egbedore Federal Constituency, Osun State, revealed that the recurring problems of corruption and poor governance structures cannot be fully eradicated without the honest participation of every Nigerian.
He added that citizens must realize that governance reform will have to start with individual and institutional integrity.
His words, “If we truly want a greater Nigeria, the responsibility lies with every one of us. I doubt if there’s anyone who can claim absolute freedom from the obligations and challenges we’ve discussed in the last few days.
As we return to our various destinations, let us take home the message that it is time for a new breath of fresh air in our public service. That includes a renewed commitment to rules, regulations, and best practices in all that we do.
Many have suggested that this should become an annual event. Once the outcomes of this conference are reviewed, we will take an informed decision on the way forward.”
WOW.
