I Am Not Here To Answer Your Questions – Inspector General Of Police Tells Senate.

The inspector-general of police, Ibrahim Idris was in the Senate today and he told the Senate that he would not entertain any questions after he appeared before the committee probing allegations against him.

Senator representing Bauchi central, Isah Misau had raised allegations against the Police Boss.

The Police IG who initially declined the invite however appeared befor the Senate on Wednesday, November 8 with his lawyer after he was threatened with a warrant of arrest.

Idris was accused of illegally receiving money to provide security to oil companies. He told the committee: �I will not answer any question.

�I decided to appear out of the respect of the senate and rule of law.”

Alex Iziyon who is the lawyer to the police chief said since the case was already in court, any comment made would prejudice the matter. He said: �Because we don’t have anything to hide, we have responded to the allegations paragraph by paragraph.

�We know you have rules here and we are asking you to look at it.”

The chairman of the committee, Francis Alimekhena then pointed out that the issue of virement of the police 2016 budget that was raised in the allegations had not gone to court.

He said: �The virement of 2016 budget did not go to court.

�The committee was constituted before you went to court. The senate is not out to witch-hunt anybody.”

The chairman went further to state that since the committee had been served with documents they would invite the police chief at a later date after it has been studied and the hearing was adjourned indefinitely.
