Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has urged Nigerian journalists to always report what is good for Nigeria.

Femi believes the press is an important part of Nigeria’s democracy so the media should always endeavor to double-check their facts and stay fair and balanced with all their reportings.

According to him, if the Nigerian democracy fails because of false press, the citizens would be the ones to bear the consequences.

He added that it would cost nothing for journalists to be very ethical and diligent as they discharge their duties.

His words, “There’s a lot of duty, ethical duty, to be apolitical and report accurately. The National Assembly, sometimes due to its own making and sometimes not, has got a lot of bad press. The sooner we realise we’re hurting ourselves, the better,”

“My charge, my hope and my appeal are that we begin to focus properly on what’s good for Nigeria.”

“It’s because of the capacity of the press to change the narrative of what’s happening that we set up the Green Chamber magazine. It’s often said that you tell your story the best way you can.

“Most of us see stories that are far from the truth, not even close to the truth. When journalists think they’re hurting the National Assembly, they’re only hurting the country.”

Femi Gbajabiamila (born June 25, 1962, surname also spelled Gbaja-Biamila and Gbajabiamila) is a Nigerian lawyer, All Progressives Congress Leader, and House Leader of Nigeria’s 8th House of Representatives.

Gbaja Biamila attended Igbobi College in Yaba, Lagos, King William’s College on the Isle of Man, United Kingdom, Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School, United States, and the University of Lagos in Lagos.

He was elected speaker in 9th National Assembly, House of Representative, with 283 vote, while his stronger opponent Mohammed Umar Bago, came Second with 78 votes.

Gbaja Biamila was elected to the House in 2003, and re-elected in 2007. He represents the Surulere I constituency of Lagos State in the House of Representatives. He is the House’s Majority Leader.
