Vice President Kashim Shettima is set to perform the formal flag-off of the first University Innovation Pods (UNIPOD) in Nigeria at the University of Lagos on Tuesday, April 7. UNIPOD, an initiative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in partnership with the Federal Government of Nigeria, aims to reconfigure Nigeria’s development architecture to transform universities into engines of innovation and enterprise creation, among other objectives.
According to the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Sen. Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia, the UNIPOD initiative underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to repositioning Nigerian universities as drivers of economic growth, innovation and enterprise development.
He added that the rollout will commence with the University of Lagos Artificial Intelligence Pod, with additional UniPods to follow in Abia, Akwa Ibom, Nasarawa, Benue, and Borno States.
His words, “The UniPods are designed to address this by providing structured platforms within our universities where ideas can be developed, tested, financed, and translated into viable enterprises for societal impact and economic development.”
