Looters That Vandalized FCT Came From As Far As Niger Republic – Sarkin Jiwa

EndSARS Protests

EndSARS Protests

Royal father, Sarkin Jiwa has come out to say that those who looted structures in the FCT amid #EndSARS protests came from the far North including Katsina, the president’s home state, and neighboring Niger Republic.

He recently revealed this while he received the “FCT Ministerial Committee on Assessment of Losses caused by #EndSARS Unrest.”

According to him, the committee set up to capture the perpetrators should not look far because the looting can be easily traced with the assistance of security agencies.

He added that the events that trailed the protest were very sad and we can only pray to not see such ugly incidents again.

His words, β€œIt is very sad and we do not pray to see such ugly incident again. We saw what we were not supposed to see because those who vandalised these things, most of them, came from the far North, Niger Republic, Katsina and other parts of this nation.

β€œAnd I want to advise, in order not to waste your time, I have been advising since almost five years that government should take action in this part of the city which is the headquarters of the Babangbola (scrap collectors). With this #EndSARS, what they (scrap collectors) have done to the city is bad. In this axis, most of the houses that were being built were vandalised. They went there and vandalised all the aluminium. In some areas where they vandalised stores, most of the machines were recovered by the military. So, you should liaise with the military and recover those machines. About 92 machines were recovered by the military. Some items were recovered in the bushes and are kept in the Gwagwa and Karmo Divisions. So, you can visit those places and see what they have”.

The Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) is a Nigerian Police Force unit under the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department headed by the Deputy Inspector General of Police Anthony Ogbizi. Since 2012, SARS has come under controversy for being linked to acts of extortion, torture, framing and blackmail.

The Special Anti-Robbery Squad was founded in 1992 by former police commissioner Simeon Danladi Midenda. The major reason SARS was formed was when Col. Rindam, a Nigerian Army Colonel was killed by police officers at a checkpoint in Lagos.

SARS is one of the 14 units in the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department which was established to detain, investigate and prosecute people involved in crimes like armed robbery, kidnapping and other forms of crimes.

During its formation the Special Anti-Robbery Squad was known to operate covertly. SARS operatives were not allowed to wear police uniform, publicly carry guns or have walkie-talkies. They were given unmarked vehicles with sometimes no license plates or private plate numbers during duty.
