The family of late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has reiterated its demand for a post-mortem DNA test, rejecting any procedure that relies on samples from his relatives to determine the paternity of his son, Liam.

According to a letter submitted to the court and signed by the family’s lawyer, Oladayo Ogungbe, the family expressed dissatisfaction with the option previously presented, insisting that only Mohbad’s own biological tissue be used for testing.

“The Aloba Family is not pleased with the current option proposed. After careful consideration, the family cannot accept any procedure that substitutes the biological sample of the late Ilerioluwa Aloba (Mohbad) with that of any other relative,” the letter stated.

Mohbad’s death has been under scrutiny since 2023, when the Lagos State Government ordered the exhumation of his remains for an autopsy following public outcry and allegations of foul play. Despite the autopsy, issues regarding his death, estate, and the paternity of his son have continued to stir legal and public debate.

The family raised concerns about the reliability of DNA tests conducted using relatives’ samples, citing a voice note from a medical professional that indicated such tests “may return inconclusive results.”

“This reaffirms the family’s insistence that only Mohbad’s own biological tissue should be used to guarantee scientific accuracy and eliminate ambiguity,” the letter added.

Additionally, the family expressed reservations about carrying out the DNA test in Nigeria, citing fears of possible compromise or interference.

“Given the sensitivity and high stakes of this matter, the Aloba Family is not comfortable using any local laboratory, as this poses a risk of compromise, contamination, or interference with the process,” the letter stated.

The family requested that the DNA analysis be conducted at a reputable, internationally accredited laboratory in the United States or the United Kingdom, where post-mortem parentage testing is routinely performed. They also called for strict safeguards during the handling of biological samples.

“To guarantee the integrity of the entire process, the family requests transparent sample collection, independent observation or representation during extraction, and a clearly documented chain of custody from the point of collection until the sample reaches the overseas DNA centre. The family must also be allowed to track the movement of the sample to ensure that no substitution, contamination, or tampering occurs. This is essential to maintain public confidence and prevent future disputes regarding the credibility of the result,” the letter emphasized.

Concluding the correspondence, the family urged the court to approve a DNA testing process that meets its conditions, while affirming its willingness to cooperate fully.

“The Aloba Family remains committed to cooperating with the court, provided that the process is conducted in a manner that preserves scientific integrity, fairness, and transparency,” the letter added.
