Nasir El Rufai
Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has formally joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC). This comes months after he announced his exit from the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Nigerians have been reacting.
El-Rufai recently wrapped up registration and received his membership card at the ADC office in U/Sarki Ward, Kaduna State.
His decision marks a major step in his political realignment, following the former Minister’s March 10 resignation from the APC.
In his resignation letter at the time, Nasir El-Rufai revealed that he could no longer remain in a party because the APC was clearly drifting from the principles that guided its formation.
He further accused the APC leadership of abandoning its founding ideals, warning that the party no longer embodies the progressive values it once took pride in.
According to him, despite repeatedly voicing his concerns both publicly and behind closed doors about the party’s worrying direction, his warnings were constantly ignored.
El-Rufai, a vital figure in the 2013 opposition merger that produced the APC, disclosed that the party keeps straying far from its original vision, and there was little willingness among those in control to address the troubling internal climate.
His official move to the ADC adds more weight to the party’s profile in Kaduna State and beyond as political realignments keep kicking in ahead of the 2027 general elections.
