Ndigbo Home And Abroad Must Unite For The Upliftment Of The Igbo Cause – Orji Kalu

Chief Whip of the Senate, Sen. Orji Kalu has come out to hail Nigeria’s former Ambassador to the United States of America (USA) Prof. George Obiozor, on his election as President General of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohaneze Ndigbo.

He recently revealed this via a congratulatory message issued today, and Nigerians have been reacting.

According to him, he can only wish the new president general success in his new role because he is definitely up to the task.

He then urged Ndigbo in Nigeria and abroad to unite in a bid to advance the cause of the Igbo nation.

His words, “I was elated when I received the news of the election of Obiozor as President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo.

“The emergence of Prof. Obiozor is not a surprise to me, owing to the new president-general’s rich and intimidating profile.

“The new president -general has over the years built and sustained relationships locally and internationally.”

Orji Uzor Kalu (born 21 April 1960) is a Nigerian politician and businessperson. He is the chairman of SLOK Holding and the Daily Sun and New Telegraph newspapers in Nigeria. He served as the Governor of Abia State, Nigeria from 29 May 1999 to 29 May 2007.

Kalu was born to the family of Mr. Johnson Uzor Nesiegbe Kalu and Mrs Eunice Kalu. He attended Christ the King School Aba and Government College Umuahia. After studying at Barewa College, Zaria, he enrolled in the University of Maiduguri where he studied political science. During his time at the university, Kalu became a student activist, and participated in the “Ali Must Go” riots against the education minister.

His participation resulted in his suspension. While his fellow students later took the school authorities to court, Kalu left school to build his own business.

Kalu married Ms. Ifeoma Ada Menakaya in December 1989, and they got married in his hometown of Igbere, Abia State. He has four children namely: Neya Lawrence Iyere nee Orji Uzor Kalu, Michael Uzor Kalu, Olivia Uzor Kalu and Nicole Uzor Kalu.
