Chairman, Edo state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi has come out to say that the doors of the party is still open to Governor Godwin Obaseki after he was disqualified by APC.

He revealed this to journalists in Benin City recently.

According to him, even if some of his close associates have contacted party leaders, Obaseki himself is yet to reach out to him or any member of his executive council.

He added that Obaseki is welcome to PDP anytime he wants and he just has to decide to make the move.

His words, “It is true that some close aides of the governor have reached out to the PDP. The governor, however, is yet to personally reach out to us. Our doors are opened to Governor Obaseki. He is welcome, should he decide to come and join us. The doors of the PDP are wide opened.”

Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki (born 1 July, 1957 in Benin City, Nigeria) is a Nigerian businessman and politician, who is currently serving as the Executive Governor of Edo State. He was sworn in as the governor on 12 November 2016. He was the Chairman of the Edo State Economic and Strategy Team inaugurated by former Governor Adams Oshiomole in March 2009.

Obaseki holds post graduate degrees in both Finance and International Business, and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Stock Brokers, Nigeria.

Obaseki served as executive board member of several private companies including Afrinvest. He is the recipient of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) award for best performing Governor of the year in October 2019.

Born in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria, Obaseki is the third child of Late Pa Roland Obaseki and Gbinigie of Owina Street, Ogbelaka Quarters, Benin City. He attended St. Matthew’s Primary School for his primary school education and proceeded to Eghosa Grammar School, in Benin City, for secondary education.
