Jos Youths Should Avoid The Indiscriminate Use Of Firecrackers This Christmas – Police

policeelectionThe Police Command in Plateau has told everyone living in Plateau State and Bukuru metropolis to stay away from obstructing public peace during Christmas via indiscriminate use of firecrackers.

The command’s Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), ASP Gabriel Ujah disclosed this warning in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Jos on Monday.

According to Gabriel, the ban on use of firecrackers is still on, and officers would apprehend and prosecute anyone who is found wanting.

His words, “We know that some people are still selling and buying knock-outs in spite of the ban on it in the state but we would ensure that such people are arrested and prosecuted.”

Reacting to the plea, Mr James Oridupa, a Nigerian who resides in Jos said the warning is timely because since Dec.1, it has been lots of sounds of firecrackers in his neighbourhood.

Plateau is the twelfth-largest state in Nigeria. Approximately in the centre of the country, it is geographically unique in Nigeria due to its boundaries of elevated hills surrounding the Jos Plateau its capital, and the entire plateau itself.

Plateau State is celebrated as “The Home of Peace and Tourism”. With natural formations of rocks, hills and waterfalls, it derives its name from the Jos Plateau and has a population of around 3.5 million people.

Plateau State is located in Nigeria’s middle belt. With an area of 26,899 square kilometres, the State has an estimated population of about three million people. It is located between latitude 08°24’N and longitude 008°32′ and 010°38′ east. The state is named after the picturesque Jos Plateau, a mountainous area in the north of the state with captivating rock formations. Bare rocks are scattered across the grasslands, which cover the plateau. The altitude ranges from around 1,200 metres (3,900 ft) to a peak of 1,829 metres (6,001 ft) above sea level in the Shere Hills range near Jos. Years of tin and columbite mining have also left the area strewn with deep gorges and lakes.

Plateau State is known as The Home of Peace and Tourism and there is plenty to see.
