Popular comedian, AY Makun has come out to say react to the recent blockade that took place at Lekki Toll-Gate as a result of the #SARSMustEnd protest.

He recently revealed that the protesters action at Lekki was very unnecessary because the youths could’ve waited for the outcome of today’s meeting between the IG and Davido.

According to him, not all SARS officials are bad and several roadblocks across the country will only affect the fellow citizens going about their daily business.

He added that corrupt officers exist in other police departments, not just SARS, and all we should fight for is accountability and prosecution of the culprit officers.

His words, “Lekki Toll gate. Blocked. My take.. This is not necessary. yes we doubt the genuine nature of the Sars disbanding, But we hear this morning the IG slated a meeting with David and a few concerned youths. Why not atleast wait and see the outcome. This road block is going to torture your fellow citizens going about thier daily business. We seem to forget not all Sars officials are bad same way corrupt officials also exist in other police depts. What we need is accountability and prosecution of the culprit officers.”

The Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) is a Nigerian Police Force unit under the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department headed by the Deputy Inspector General of Police Anthony Ogbizi. Since 2012, SARS has come under controversy for being linked to acts of extortion, torture, framing and blackmail.

The Special Anti-Robbery Squad was founded in 1992 by former police commissioner Simeon Danladi Midenda. The major reason SARS was formed was when Col. Rindam, a Nigerian Army Colonel was killed by police officers at a checkpoint in Lagos.

SARS is one of the 14 units in the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department which was established to detain, investigate and prosecute people involved in crimes like armed robbery, kidnapping and other forms of crimes.

During its formation the Special Anti-Robbery Squad was known to operate covertly. SARS operatives were not allowed to wear police uniform, publicly carry guns or have walkie-talkies. They were given unmarked vehicles with sometimes no license plates or private plate numbers during duty.
