Media personality and Nollywood actress Toke Makinwa has shared her thoughts on newborn care, encouraging mothers to avoid bathing their babies every single day.
In a recent video posted to her social media platform, Makinwa—who became a first-time mother at 40—explained that she bathes her baby less frequently to protect the child’s sensitive skin.
She insisted that newborns are naturally clean, noting they come straight from the womb, which she described as a hygienic environment. “I really think bathing babies actually causes problems. Babies are not dirty. They have been inside the womb for nine months. Inside the womb is not dirty,” she said.
Makinwa advised mothers to opt for gentle wiping rather than daily baths, adding that newborns are rarely exposed to dirt or sweat. “I don’t bathe my baby every day because it is not necessary. Babies are not on the floor; they are not dirty or sweaty. So, why are you excessively putting water on their skin? Their skin is fragile. You can wipe them instead of bathing them every day. This helped me, so I’m just putting it out there,” she explained.
Her parenting take has sparked debate online, with some commenters expressing doubts about her experience and questioning her credibility as a new mom offering advice to others.
