South African music star Tyla has once again taken the spotlight, earning the title of the number-one Afrobeats artist in the United States for 2025, according to Billboard’s newly released year-end rankings.
The achievement marks a record-setting moment, as Tyla becomes the first artist to secure the top spot for two consecutive years after also dominating the 2024 list. Billboard highlighted her remarkable run, stating, “Tyla takes first place on the 2025 U.S. Afrobeats Artists year-end chart, defending her title from 2024 and becoming the first act to repeat the feat.”
Her impressive year included 11 entries on the U.S. Afrobeats chart, underscoring her consistent influence. Among these successes was Dynamite, a standout collaboration with Nigerian star Wizkid, which climbed to No. 2 on the weekly chart. Her solo track Mr. Media also made waves, landing at No. 8.
Tyla’s momentum carried over to the year-end songs chart as well. Her 2025 hit Shake It to the Max (Fly) earned the title of the top Afrobeats song in the U.S., while her global smash Water—the song that catapulted her to international fame in 2023—secured the No. 2 position, proving its lasting appeal.
The 2025 list also showcased the continued dominance of Nigerian artists in the genre. Wizkid followed in second place, while other top-ten spots featured Rema, Burna Boy, Davido, BNXN, Asake, Shallipopi, and Seyi Vibez. Ghana’s Moliy completed the lineup, reflecting Afrobeats’ growing presence across the continent.
Billboard’s recognition adds to a year of milestones for the genre. In August, the publication honored Nigerian legend 2Baba by naming his 2004 classic African Queen the greatest Afrobeats song of all time, praising it as “a love letter to a generation of women from the continent.”
