Veekee James Insists She Is Her Husband’s Only Confidante

Celebrity fashion designer Veekee James has shared strong views on marriage, stating that her husband, Femi Atere, does not and will never have a female best friend.

The designer, who tied the knot with Atere in October 2023 and later held elaborate traditional and white wedding ceremonies in Akwa Ibom and Lagos in 2024, made the comments during an appearance on Off The Top.

According to James, she occupies the exclusive position of lifelong best friend in her marriage and finds it difficult to understand why a married man would maintain such a close emotional bond with another woman.

“A man can have a female best friend, but my husband can never. I am my husband’s only best friend for life,” she said.

She stressed that her marriage leaves no room for another woman in that capacity. “He cannot have me and another; it is just me. Any man who wants to can have a female best friend, but my husband is the exception because it simply doesn’t make sense to me.”

James also addressed the issue from the perspective of married women, arguing that emotional closeness and companionship should be found primarily within one’s own home.

“Even if the lady is married, she should be her husband’s best friend. Her husband should be her solace, her hiding place and her refuge,” she said.

Questioning the need for such friendships, she added, “Why is she looking for a best friend in my husband? It is not possible. There is no space for that. He does not have room for such; he is occupied with me.”

The fashion entrepreneur recently opened up about her emotional struggle following allegations that she took her husband from a close friend, revealing that the claims left her in tears for days and nearly pushed her into depression.
