Imo State has discovered the existence of ghost workers on its payroll leading to monumental fraud, Gov. Hope Uzodinma has said.

He recently revealed this while addressing newsmen as part of activities marking his first anniversary in office, and Nigerians have been reacting.

According to him, ghost workers and ghost pensioners have been receiving monthly salaries and pensions in the state, and that cannot be allowed to continue.

He added that his government has already paid all genuine workers in the state, and those still complaining of non-payment are either ghost workers or fraudsters.

His words, β€œThis government has paid every genuine worker; those complaining of non-payment are either ghost workers or fraudsters.”

β€œI am challenging anybody who has not received his or her salaries to come to Government House with his employment details and we will pay him or her immediately.”

Hope Uzodinma is the Governor of Imo state. He was declared governor of the state by a Supreme Court of Nigeria judgement in January 2020. Hope is a Nigerian politician who was elected Senator for the Orlu (Imo West) constituency of Imo State, Nigeria, in the April 2011 federal elections.

He ran on the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) platform. His election was challenged on the grounds that he was not the valid PDP candidate, but on 5 May 2011 the supreme court declared that his election was valid. Recently, the most distinguish Senator, Hope Uzodinma defeated the incumbent Governor’s choice to win the APC Gubernatorial Primary and received Heroic welcome in Owerri Imo State.

A report in 2001 said that Chief Uzodinma had a business empire spread across the country. He had the ceremonial title of Onwa-Netiri Oha of Omuma in Oru local government of Imo State. Uzodinma was a PDP chief in Imo State and friend of the Governor Achike Udenwa until late 2002. At that time he decided to run for Governor himself in the April 2003 elections, and decamped to the Alliance for Democracy (AD), becoming their candidate for the Imo State gubernatorial election.
