The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB has come out to announce that it is set to hold a rally across Australia on May 30th in honour of Biafra fallen heroes.

The director of Membership and Mobilization of IPOB in Australia, Mr. Kennedy Ochi recently revealed this via a statement, and Nigerians have been reacting.

According to him, the rally will involve candle night and peaceful demonstration at Federation Square, Melbourne and Victoria, and they’ll run simultaneously in other European countries.

He added that the rally is meant to further awaken the global community to the plight and marginalization of the people of old eastern region in the hands of the Federal Government.

His words, β€œIPOB is committed to the struggle towards the emancipation of its people. Nothing will stop the agitation since the current regime of President Muhammadu Buhari has relegated the Igbo to the back bench in a country they are citizens.”

β€œIt is visible to the blind and audible to the deaf that our opinion don’t matter no more in the current affairs of the nation but still, Biafrans are not allowed to go. We remain committed in this struggle. IPOB is bidirectional, well-organized, systematic and hierarchical structure with the sole aim of accomplishing our mission.”

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) is a Biafran separatist organization in Nigeria. Its main aim is to restore an independent state of Biafra in the former Eastern Region of Nigeria through an independence referendum.

The group was founded in 2012 by Nnamdi Kanu, a British Nigerian political activist known for his prominent advocacy of the contemporary Biafran independence movement.

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra is Nnamdi kanu who is a dual British and Biafran citizen. He created IPOB after he initially gained fame from his broadcasts on Radio Biafra, which was established in 2009.

This was a radio station from London that broadcast messages that called for “freedom of Biafrans” and criticised corruption in the government of Nigeria. Radio Biafra catalyzed Kanu’s rise to the public scene, as he was previously an unknown figure. Kanu was arrested by Nigerian security forces on 19 October 2015, on charges of “sedition, ethnic incitement and treasonable felony.”
