Nollywood comic actor Olatayo Amokade, popularly known as Ijebu, has stepped into the ongoing tension between Big Brother Naija Season 10 champion Imisi and her mother, urging the reality TV star to put an end to their public fallout. His message was shared via an Instagram video posted on Sunday evening.
The conflict intensified shortly after Imisi won the N150 million grand prize, with claims circulating online that the newfound wealth had deepened existing issues between her and her mother. While in the BBNaija house, Imisi had revealed painful details about her childhood — including being sent out of her home at age 11, surviving with her grandmother while selling fufu, and suffering traumatic experiences such as rape at 12 and an abortion at 13. She said their relationship had long been strained.
Following her win, a viral video showed Imisi’s mother alleging neglect, a claim Imisi countered by questioning why these accusations only surfaced after her victory. She insisted she had maintained contact and support despite their troubled bond.
“Long before BBNaija, I was already on my own. Sometimes you wouldn’t call me for one or two years. Why is this an issue now?” Imisi said in a response that circulated online. She added that she had still sent her mother money recently and emphasised that she could not give away her prize funds to please relatives. “There are about 100 family members depending on me. I cannot kill myself because of anybody,” she said.
In his video, Ijebu advised the reality star to prioritise peace and take the first step toward reconciliation. He encouraged her to approach her mother with humility for the sake of healing, stressing that parents deserve honour regardless of past conflicts.
“Imisi, I know you have a good heart. The Bible instructs us to honour our parents,” he said. “Go to your mother today or tomorrow morning, kneel, hold her legs, and apologise. Let her bless you. Whatever has happened, she is still your mini god on earth. After this, no more online fights. If anything comes up again, I will be very disappointed.”
His intervention reflects the increasing trend of family disputes spilling onto social media — and the efforts of public figures to curb the damaging effects of such online confrontations.
