Nigerian dancer and BBNaija star Roseline Omokhoa Afije, popularly known as Liquorose, has shared the emotional journey behind her rise to stardom, revealing how a crushing disappointment in 2020 almost made her quit.
During a recent podcast chat with VJ Adams, Liquorose disclosed that she had been selected for the 2020 edition of Big Brother Naija and was already backstage on the opening night—fully dressed, made up, and prepared to walk on stage.
But at the last minute, everything changed.
“In 2020, I was backstage at the BBNaija opening show. I was dressed up and make up done, but I was not called. That really hurt me,” she revealed.
She explained that the sudden removal left her devastated, especially because she and fellow contestant Jaypaul were eventually prevented from joining the show after testing positive for COVID-19.
The setback affected her so deeply that she decided she wouldn’t audition again the following year—until a friend pushed her to give the process one more chance.
“That experience was messing with me. So, the following year, I didn’t even want to audition but my friend convinced me to try. I just auditioned and forgot about it. I just went to check my spam one day and I discovered that I have been selected. It was crazy,” she recalled.
Her reluctant second attempt turned out to be life-changing. Liquorose made it into the 2021 season and eventually finished as the runner-up, with Whitemoney emerging as the winner.
