Afrobeats sensation Omah Lay has sparked fresh debate after declaring that Nigeria’s problems will not disappear through prayer alone.

The musician, whose real name is Stanley Omah Didia, insisted that real progress demands deliberate effort from citizens rather than relying solely on spiritual intervention.

Posting on X on Thursday, he wrote: “No Jesus, no Allah, no prayer is saving us. Nothing changes until we wake TF up.”

His blunt message arrived at a time when religious leaders across the country are urging Nigerians to intensify prayers in response to widespread insecurity and harsh economic conditions.

Other notable celebrities — including Don Jazzy, Davido, Falz and Mr Macaroni — have also commented on recent tragedies such as the terrorist attack on a church in Kwara State and the kidnapping of schoolgirls in Kebbi State, stressing the need for stronger government action.

On Wednesday, Yemi Alade added her voice to the conversation about foreign intervention, stating that “African problems need African solutions, not new problem.”

Omah Lay’s remarks reflect a rising wave of frustration among Nigerians and public figures who argue that while prayer has its place, only collective responsibility and concrete steps can move the nation forward.
