Former Big Brother Naija housemate, Queen Mercy Atang, has expressed heartfelt gratitude after a frightening incident in her home where the POP ceiling in her living room suddenly collapsed.
The reality TV star shared the experience via a video posted online, revealing that her younger sister and nanny were present in the living room when the ceiling caved in. At the time, both were busy sewing and were forced to run for safety to avoid being struck.
Queen recounted that she was initially alarmed when her mother rushed into her room to inform her of what had happened. “I was frightened, but when I learnt that my sister and nanny were fine, my blood pressure came down,” she said.
She further disclosed that this was not the first structural issue in the house, explaining that the POP ceiling in her garage had also collapsed a few weeks earlier.
Sharing more details about the hours leading up to the incident, Queen revealed that she had returned home in the early hours of the morning after working overnight. “7:58am God said, not this family,” she wrote, explaining that she had been at the airport picking up a friend who had just arrived in Nigeria for a Guinness World Record project.
According to her, she returned home around 4 a.m. and advised her workers to rest in the living room until morning. While one of them eventually left, she persuaded the other to stay back due to safety concerns. By 6 a.m., the worker had gone home, while her sister and nanny remained awake sewing.
She noted that it was unusual for them not to sleep in the sitting room afterward, a decision she believes saved their lives. “They were still sewing when the POP ceiling fell. They both literally had to run for their lives,” she shared.
Queen added that she had just settled down to rest when her mother alerted her. “The first thing I asked was, ‘Mommy, where is Doctor @dr_brightie and my nanny?’ She replied, ‘They’re upstairs.’ My blood pressure came down immediately.”
Speaking on the emotional strain of the situation, she explained that she is currently juggling family safety concerns alongside her role as coordinator for her friend’s Guinness World Record attempt scheduled to begin this Friday.
She ended her message on a thankful note, saying, “Dear Lord, I am grateful. Thank You for Your love and Your protection. I’m truly grateful.”
