Nigerian hip-hop star Zlatan Ibile has taken a swipe at the government, accusing it of neglecting the worsening economic situation in the country.

Speaking in an interview with Madame Joyce in the United Kingdom, the rapper lamented that Nigerians have become so accustomed to hardship that it now feels normal.

“We are used to it [suffering and smiling], that’s how it has always been and the government isn’t doing anything about it,” he said.

Zlatan’s remarks came while reacting to British rapper Dave’s recent satire, which mocked the contrast between Nigeria’s flashy nightlife and the destitute beggars outside clubs.

The award-winning artist went on to criticize how some beggars have turned street begging into a full-time occupation rather than pursuing productive means of livelihood.

He expressed disappointment that, despite receiving financial assistance from well-meaning Nigerians, including celebrities, many still prefer to depend on handouts.

According to him, the growing sense of entitlement among some beggars is “annoying.”

Zlatan urged those on the streets to seek dignified and sustainable ways to earn a living, stressing that hard work and creativity remain the best solutions to poverty.
