Issuance Of Licenses For Small Arms Has Been Banned Temporarily – Police

The Force Headquarters has come out to share why the police stopped the issuance of licenses for small arms.

The acting Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun recently had his say while speaking to the press, and Nigerians have been reacting.

According to him, the force had to stop issuing those licenses mainly because of the high rate of illegal arms proliferation in the country.

He added that the ban on the issuance will remain temporary for the time being, and a review might happen in future.

His words, “We are mopping up arms in circulation. There are too many arms in circulation and if we continue to issue licenses on arms, we may continue to aggravate the problems we are trying to solve.”

“For now, there is a temporary ban on the issuance of firearms. We May review it later, but we are not issuing firearms licenses nationwide now.”
