The Media Rights Agenda (MRA) has urged federal and state governments to address challenges within Nigeria’s information ecosystem. The organisation recently made the call in a statement issued in Lagos on Sunday to commemorate the International Women’s Day (IWD) 2026.
According to the MRA Programme Officer, Ayomide Eweje, meaningful progress for women in Nigeria would remain difficult if barriers like bureaucratic secrecy and limited access to public information persist.
She added that the problems within Nigeria’s information ecosystem continue to hinder women’s access to public information and limit their ability to fully exercise their right to information.
Her words, “Access to information is not just a legal right but a critical tool for survival, empowerment and equality for women. It enables them to make informed decisions, claim their rights and participate fully in social, economic and political life.”
