President Muhammadu Buhari has come out to say that the Federal Government will fully back the development of the historic City of Calabar.
He disclosed this as he received His Eminence, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi, Otu V, Obong of Calabar, at the State House, Abuja, yesterday.
Buhari said even if the City had lost its preeminent status as the first capital city of Southern Nigeria to Lagos, his government would not reduce ongoing efforts to open the City to the rest of Nigeria.
He also said FG would boost the efforts to make sure the people of Cross River State are happy.
His words, “We will open up that part of Nigeria to the rest of the country.”
Buhari said that three road projects Calabar-Ugep-Ikom-Ogoja; Calabar-Itu-Ikot Ekpene and Sapele-Ewu were at various stages of completion.
Buhari promiseded total support to the Calabar Deep Sea Port project of the State, adding that a number of electricity projects would soon follow after a visit to the State by the Ministers of Power in the upcoming two weeks.

Muhammadu Buhari GCFR (born 17 December 1942) is a Nigerian politician currently serving as the President of Nigeria, in office since 2015. In February 2019, Buhari was re-elected President, defeating his closest rival Atiku Abubakar by over 3 million votes.
Buhari has stated that he takes responsibility for anything over which he presided during his military rule, and that he cannot change the past. He has described himself as a “converted democrat”.
Muhammadu Buhari was born to a Fulani family on 17 December 1942, in Daura, Katsina State, to his father Hardo Adamu, a Fulani chief, and mother Zulaihat. He is the twenty-third child of his father. Buhari was raised by his mother, after his father died when he was about four years old.
