Igboho’s Actions Cannot Be Criminalized – Wole Soyinka

Popular poet, Wole Soyinka has come out to say that the government of the Republic of Benin should release Sunday Igboho so that he can continue his journey.

He recently revealed this while speaking with journalists in Lagos, and Nigerians have been reacting.

According to him, he refuses to believe that Igboho committed any offence except agitating against Fulani tyranny on his people, so he is no criminal.

Soyinka added that Igboho has been peacefully demonstrating his position so his actions cannot be criminalized.

His words, “I refuse to believe that Igboho committed any offence except agitating against Fulani tyranny on his people. He peacefully demonstrated his position. I can’t consider that to be decided a criminal. Agitating for secession is not a criminal act as long as it’s done peacefully. You don’t have to criminalise that.”
