Former Senate President, David Mark has come out to urge Nigerian Christians to participate in politics and elect credible leaders that would guarantee proper welfare.

He recently revealed this while speaking to the Prelate of the Methodist Church of Nigeria Dr. Samuel Kanu Uche and the congregation at the 48th/13th Biennial conference of the Church in Abuja.

According to him, Nigerian Christians cannot afford to sit on the fence and not participate in politics because they have to sit up and elect credible leaders that would improve standard of living and security of citizens.

Mark added that the unfolding political development in Nigeria demands that Christians should participate in politics in order to elect the right leaders.

His words, “Ahead of the 2023 general elections, former President of the Senate, Senator David Mark has urged Nigerian Christians not to sit on the fence but to participate in politics in order to elect credible leaders that would guarantee the welfare and security of citizens good governance.”

“Senator Mark told the Prelate of the Methodist Church of Nigeria Dr. Samuel Kanu Uche and the congregation at the 48th/13th Biennial conference of the Church in Abuja that the unfolding political development in Nigeria demands that Christians should participate in politics in order to elect leaders that would guarantee good governance and serve the people creditably.”

“He pointed out that the old assumption that the church should not get involved in politics remains a critical issue for debate and wondered if that assumption is still relevant today. He asked the church to point way forward.”

“Senator Mark stated, ‘A lot of Christians believes that politics is a dirty game, but if politics is truly dirty, Christians should get involved to sanitize and clean it up to serve the purpose for the good of all.”

“He, therefore, charged Christian leaders to encourage their faithful to register and obtain their permanent voters cards in preparation to vote candidates of their choice during elections.”

“Senator Mark also bemoaned the state of insecurity in the land and charged the government of the day to do more to protect and defend her citizens against “these mindless murderers , bandits, terrorists and kidnappers ravaging the country’.”
