The moviestar recently filed the suit on the 29th of July, and Nigerians have been reacting.
According to her, the studio’s decision to launch her first and last Marvel standalone film on Disney+ as well as cinemas is a clear breach of contract she will not tolerate.
Scarlett added that she won’t be denied the full benefit of her bargain with Marvel because of Disney’s deliberate attempt to break their agreement without justification.
The suit read, “Disney intentionally induced Marvel’s breach of the agreement, without justification, in order to prevent Ms. Johansson from realizing the full benefit of her bargain with Marvel.”
“This will surely not be the last case where Hollywood talent stands up to Disney and makes it clear that, whatever the company may pretend, it has a legal obligation to honor its contracts.”
Disney’s CEO, Bob Chapek responded, “One of the things we learned is that flexibility is good. We’re really celebrating that flexibility … we’re trying to offer consumers more choice.”
“There is no merit whatsoever to this filing. The lawsuit is especially sad and distressing in its callous disregard for the horrific and prolonged global effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
