Gbenga Daniel and Dapo Abiodun
The Ogun State High Court sitting in Sagamu has ordered former governor of the state and Senator representing Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel, to present the necessary documents requested by the state government in respect of his Asoludero Court, Sagamu GRA private home, as well as Conference Hotels and its annexe also owned by him.
The order was reportedly issued by Justice O. S. Oloyede at the resumed hearing of the suit no HCS/371/2025 involving Otunba Gbenga Daniel and Anor vs the Governor of Ogun State.
According to a press statement sent to journalists by the Special Adviser to Gov Dapo Abiodun on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, the court directed OGD to present his papers to the government in line with the request made to him and other residents in the area.
O.T. Olaotan, Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice, who represents the government, alongside R.B. Kadiri (DCL), A.E. Odukoya, and W.A. Onawole, informed Justice O. S. Oloyede that an interlocutory injunction and counter-affidavits have been filed in response to the motion by Daniel and served on the Claimants’ counsel.
After the counsel stated that the matter is not yet ready for hearing and the court was not inclined to take the application, A.O. Kotoye (SAN), with O.T. Are and A.O. Adeniyi for the Claimants, filed for the court to extend the interim Order earlier granted, which will automatically abate after one week.
The Defence team reportedly argued that “the Court should order the Claimants/Applicants to take advantage of the two-week extension announced by the Government and furnish the Ministry of Physical Planning with the necessary documents, which others served with the same notices have been complying with.”
Justice Oloyede eventually urged both parties to maintain the status quo, asking them to keep exploring settlement options.
He was quoted to have further ordered “the Claimants/Applicants to take advantage of the extension and furnish the relevant government agency with the necessary documents as requested by the government.”
Counsel for the Claimants and Defendants both decided for the matter to be adjourned to 13th October 2025.
The Court proceeded to adjourn the matter to the agreed date by the parties for the hearing of the pending applications.
Recall that officials of the State Ministry of Urban and Regional Planning, through the State Planning and Development Authority on Friday 8, July 2025, posted Notices of Contravention, Quit and threats of demolition on the Asoludero Court Sagamu private residence, the Conference Hotels Limited, Sagamu and the hotel Annex, all in Sagamu and belong to the former governor.
Ogun State Government had accused Gbenga Daniel of constructing the building without a planning permit and working setback.
Reacting, the act attracted major criticism from the OGD Media Office, which described the decision as a calculated attempt by Dapo Abiodun to torment the former Ogun Governor under the guise of enforcing the state’s Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law No. 61 of 2022.
