Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said that he is open to stepping aside for a younger aspirant if he loses the presidential primary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He recently revealed that it is too early to conclude that he will contest in 2027.
Speaking during an interview with BBC Hausa, he shared that rather than concentrating on his own political ambitions, he is more focused on uniting the opposition under the ADC.
Atiku stated that ADC prioritises youth and women, and the ultimate goal is to guarantee a huge following ahead of the 2027 polls.
“This is only the beginning. Our priority is to establish the party and gain a strong following.
If I run for office, and a young man defeats me, I will accept that.
The party we have joined now prioritises youth and women,” he said.
He further rubbished reports that he might “double-deal” between the ADC and PDP, stressing that he does not know to play 2 sides.
Atiku concluded by saying that if he decides to head in a particular direction, he does not look back.
“No, I’m not known for that. If I say I am going one way, I will go that way,” he added.
