Nigerian comedian Klint Da Drunk has recounted the defining moment that pushed him away from a budding music career and into the world of comedy.
In a recent interview with Naija FM Lagos, the entertainer revealed that he was once deeply invested in music during his days at the Institute of Management Technology (IMT), Enugu. However, everything shifted the day he witnessed 2Face Idibia perform on campus.
Klint explained that hearing 2Face sing made him instantly question his own musical journey.
“I used to be a musician until 2Face got admitted to my school, IMT. One day when he got on stage to perform at an event on campus, I left the hall. The organisers pleaded with me to stay back and perform when he is done,” he said.
Although he initially agreed, Klint said he changed his mind almost immediately after listening to just a few lines from 2Face.
“I accepted but after hearing him sing just two lines, I went home. I didn’t know that my style and 2Face’s style were different. If I had known, I would continue making music. But thank God I didn’t continue. I like where I am.”
Before redirecting his career toward comedy, Klint showed strong potential in music. He featured on Mr Raw’s hit song “Obodo” and co-founded a music group with the rapper. The group competed in the 2002 Star Quest talent show, finishing as runners-up to KC Presh.
His transition proved successful, as Klint Da Drunk eventually became one of Nigeria’s most recognisable comedy stars and featured in numerous Nollywood films, including Men On The Run, Madam 10/10, Fast Cash, and Lost Kingdom.
