Monaco Never Wanted To Sell Camara To Chelsea – CEO

AS Monaco CEO Thiago Scuro has broken his silence on the extraordinary events of transfer deadline day. He recently detailed the collapse of Chelsea’s move for Lamine Camara and Everton’s bid for Folarin Balogun.

Explaining the financial pressures facing the Ligue 1 side and why the club was forced to make difficult decisions in the final hours of the window, Sucro stated that even though the door briefly opened at some point, Monaco never wanted to sell Camara.

Thiago added that Balogun’s failed transfer was solely down to his post-midnight change of heart.

His words, “Chelsea came and called us for Camara. Oh, maybe I can be here for the solution. And at that moment, we had to open the door for the discussion. The answer remained no, but as the evening progressed and complications arose elsewhere, the door briefly opened.

Balogun’s allegation is that I’m not feeling well because of the way the club treated me. I’m not feeling well because Everton’s medical department raised doubts about my future or my health. I have nothing (no health problem), so I’m not comfortable signing a long contract here.

It was mandatory in the agreement that Balogun would open the foreign (Non-EU) spot; because of that, we were not able to bring Erik Lira.

Today, he is a Monaco player. There is a chance that he stays. We still have other markets open, which we are having discussions about with different players, including ‘Balo’.”
