President Bola Tinubu has mourned veteran Nollywood actor Olu Jacobs. He recently had his say via a press statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Describing the actor as one of Nigeria’s most distinguished actors ever, Tinubu hailed Olu Jacobs for professionalising the country’s entertainment industry and inspiring generations of actors and filmmakers through his craft.
Praising the late actor’s effortless screen presence, BAT added that the icon delivered depth, dignity and authenticity with every role he played.
His words, “He was a giant of the Nigerian creative industry. His passing is a great loss to Nigeria, the African film industry and the global community of lovers of the performing arts. His remarkable body of work will continue to speak to generations yet unborn.
The nation recognises the enormous contributions of Nigeria’s creative practitioners to the country’s cultural identity, global image and economic development. Olu Jacobs played a big role in creating this identity.”
Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, known professionally as Olu Jacobs, was a veteran Nigerian actor and film executive.
He began his career starring in several British television series and international films. Trained at The Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, England, Olu Jacobs worked with various repertoire theatres in Britain and starred in some international movies.
Jacobs was married to fellow Nollywood actor Joke Silva since 1989. They have two children.
Olu Jacobs was honoured with the Industry Merit Award for outstanding achievements in acting at the 2013 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.
