Veteran Nollywood actor Richard Mofe-Damijo has mourned his late colleague, Olu Jacobs. He recently had his say via an emotional Instagram tribute, and fans have been reacting.
Reflecting on the heavy loss and the influence Olu Jacobs had on many generations of Nigerian performers, RMD described the deceased as an icon, pioneer and a Nollywood giant.
Praising his talent, discipline and command of his craft, the moviestar added that he was inspired by Uncle Jay’s return to Nigeria to perfect his craft.
His words, “I have said before that if Uncle had not returned home, many of us may not have become who we are today.
I want to remember the man.
Thank you for giving your gift to us.
You may have taken your final bow, but the curtain will never truly fall on the legacy you leave behind.”
Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, known professionally as Olu Jacobs, was a veteran Nigerian actor and film executive.
He began his career starring in several British television series and international films. Trained at The Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, England, Olu Jacobs worked with various repertoire theatres in Britain and starred in some international movies.
Jacobs was married to fellow Nollywood actor Joke Silva since 1989. They have two children.
Olu Jacobs was honoured with the Industry Merit Award for outstanding achievements in acting at the 2013 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.
