Atlético Madrid manager Diego Simeone has spoken up about his team’s UCL loss to Bayern Munich. He recently had his say while speaking to the press, and fans have been reacting.
Explaining why his team crumbled after conceding the first goal, Simeone stated that his players simply lacked the ability to win second balls or be present enough on the opponent’s side of the pitch.
The Argentine coach added that his team must now shift focus to the La Liga clash against Barcelona.
His words, “There is nothing I blame the team for, as even scoring the goal in the second half was a good performance, and the match was balanced between the two teams. We were defending well, but the first goal affected us, and we couldn’t respond by creating important chances to equalize.
The second goal came as a result of a mistake on our part, and when you make mistakes against an opponent of this level, the other side is superior and does not spare you.
We lacked the ability to win second balls, and we were not present enough on the opponent’s pitch. We had good periods until the first goal, and it is unfortunate that we could not maintain our level after all the effort we put in.
Mistakes are part of football, the game is based on mistakes, and it depends on us how we deal with them.
We have five days ahead of us, and the league is one thing while the UEFA Champions League is another. We need to work hard when the time comes for our next match in the European competition, as we still have only four points.”
