The Peoples Democratic Party, has said the former president would not contest in the 2019presidential election. this is coming in after claims that the former president wants to hijack the party structure in Bayelsa for his personal ambition. The Party has zoned its presidential candidate to come from the North and has warned against plans to ridicule the past president.

the statement, signed by the chairman (Barr. Ariolu Tebidapa, Delta State) and secretary (Akpan Ibibio, Akwa-Ibom State) of the PDP, said:

“it is obvious that since after the supreme court ruling that laid rest the leadership crisis that rocked the PDP, some persons within the party are still not settled due to the role they played in spite the fact that the party has granted amnesty to all those who worked against the interest of the party. These persons see the former president as a threat and hence wants to attack his personality. We have read in the dailies about some persons insinuating that the immediate president wants to hijack the party structure in other to actualize his presidential ambition. This however, sounds laughable; we see it as an attempt to ridicule the personality of the immediate president. His Excellency, former President Goodluck Jonathan is not contesting for the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, even though he is still qualified constitutionally and by pedigree, because he is still widely loved and accepted by Nigerians. However the PDP has zoned its presidency to the Northern part of Nigeria so, we wonder what these fifth columnist really want to achieve by selling falsehood. it is also not rue that the former president wants to hijack the party structure in Bayelsa state. We consider this story as an imagination from the those who are being chased by their shadow. As the leader of the party in his constituency his interest is who leads the party in the national level and how to push forward the vision for Nigeria. Consequently, we consider all these as attempts to distract the attention of the former at a time he is busy working with other party leaders and focusing his attention on how to reposition the party and Nigeria for the future. The former president has made the south-south proud and has sacrificed to keep Nigeria United, he deserve respect and regards. No amount of blackmail or insult will erase the achievement of the immediate past president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan”.
