
The global music community is mourning the death of legendary reggae singer and actor James Chambers, popularly known as Jimmy Cliff.
News of the 76-year-old musician’s death was announced across his official social media platforms, where the family disclosed that he passed away following “a seizure followed by pneumonia.”
In an emotional message posted on his verified Facebook page, Cliff’s wife confirmed the loss, writing: “It’s with profound sadness that I share that my husband, Jimmy Cliff, has crossed over due to a seizure followed by pneumonia.”
She expressed appreciation for the many people who shaped his life and career, noting, “I am thankful for his family, friends, fellow artists and coworkers who have shared his journey with him.”
She also extended heartfelt gratitude to his supporters worldwide. “To all his fans around the world, please know that your support was his strength throughout his whole career. He really appreciated every fan for their love.”
Cliff’s wife further acknowledged the medical professionals who cared for him in his final days: “I also wanted to thank Dr. Couceyro and the whole medical staff, as they have been extremely supportive and helpful during this difficult process. Jimmy, my darling, may you rest in peace. I will follow your wishes.”
The family has asked the public to grant them privacy as they grieve, adding that additional updates will be released in due time. “I hope you all can respect our privacy during these hard times. Further information will be provided at a later date,” she said.
Jimmy Cliff leaves behind an enduring legacy as one of reggae’s most influential voices and a trailblazer who helped carry Jamaican music to international stages.
