Afrobeats star Ayra Starr has spoken about her recent relocation to New York City, describing it as a deliberate move to expand her global footprint.

The 23-year-old artiste revealed that she has spent just under two months living in the United States and is already settling comfortably into her new surroundings. According to her, New York’s fast-paced lifestyle and cultural diversity remind her strongly of Lagos, making the adjustment easier than she expected.

In a new video interview, Ayra Starr noted that the city’s energy feels familiar and that the large African, especially Nigerian, community has made her feel at home.

“New York reminds me so much of Lagos. So it feels like home. There are a lot of Nigerians here. There’s a huge African diaspora here, so it feels like home.”
